Calling Spirits

There are spirits all around us. We're not talking just about so-called ghosts here. Energy in our universe, or what some theoretical physicists like Stephen Hawking are beginning to call the "Multi-verse" or multidimensional universe, has formed itself into virtually everything that is possible to exist. All things seen and unseen by human eyes exists in an ocean of energy inhabited by life forms without number. Speaking with and calling or communicating with other-worldly characters is as easy as directing your thoughts and emotions toward them. Sure, "that's just YOUR opinion" you might say. True enough. But it is an opinion born from my own (and many other persons) real-life experiences. Sure, some of us may be "wack jobs" and loonies but there are also those of us who are highly rational people who just happen to be more sensitive to a wider spectrum of reality than most.

Spirits, be they ghosts, angels, demons, astral beings, etc., are intelligent to a lesser of greater degree. Speaking for myself alone, aren't we are better off knowing about entities who may possibly be interacting with our lives behind the scenes? Walking about ignorant of intelligent "personalities" who may be interested in and affecting our private lives is not a good thing.

I propose calling or befriending spirits of a positive, helpful inclination to serve as our friends and allies. Going a step further, characters - even fictional ones- that are archetypal or who have had much human energy 'poured' into their conception
have attained a certain independent, objective REALITY. We're talking here about Merlin, Gandalf, Allanon, Aslan and suchlike ones. Now here's the kicker; these characters can even be contacted and consulted as intelligent living entities! This is because they are real entities now. Some people would argue that our own minds create the illusion of independent beings but, in my considered opinion, this is a debatable point.

There is much to say on this topic but let us leave it there for now and I will happily take it up again should anyone desire to discuss it further.

Embracing Darkness

People often think in terms of light as being symbolic of goodness and righteousness, while darkness is generally seen to represent evil and sin. We can't really blame society, at least in the western world, from thinking along those lines since some of our great religious books tend to relate light and dark, good and evil in that way. And besides, who can argue with John Wayne and those great old western films? The good guy always wore the white hat and the bad guys invariably wore black!

I won't even try to undo generations of religious and societal programing (aka, propaganda) that casts light/white as good and dark/black as bad. I will, however, point out that appearances can deceive. The bad guys sometimes where white and vice versa. In nature we see that night falls and it gets dark. Is this an evil thing? If you are a Christian you might ask yourself, when God said "Let there be light" does that mean he was existing in a dark, evil place before? Having been a Christian for many years myself, I can tell you what I would have answered. No. God dwells in spiritual light. He was creating physical light (and by so doing also created darkness.) By his own declaration he then pronounced the day AND night as - and I quote - "all good." (Genesis 1:3 and also Genesis 1:31)

It is only natural that some people will prefer to conduct their spiritual and magickal activities at night and dress in dark attire. After all, it is during the night that the hustle and bustle of daily life quiets (for humans anyhow) and bodies heal and rest. In my experience it is also easier to concentrate and hear myself think at night or before dawn. On a side note, those who I call "Bible thumpers' would do well to remember that in the Bible and for the Jews, the day began with the NIGHT and progressed toward the day, exactly opposite to how Christians live.

I prefer to practice at night, that creative and rejuvenating part of the the cycle of life. Of course, no amount of words and even scriptural quotations will convince people that I'm not practicing evil magick all dressed in my spooky robes and candle light! More on this later!

Working With POWER

As a veteran of many coven rituals, workings, sabbats, esbats, etc., my main issue with them as magickal workings was that most times we were just going through the motions. Yeah, this one calls the corners, that one invokes the God/Goddess and so on. For people who are sensitive to subtle energies and who want to intensify the power playing at their rituals, your garden variety Sabbat observance can be pretty disappointing. They are often lackluster events - for me anyway. I like to feel the power move, surge, peak and ebb.
These days I work exclusively solo but let me make a few suggestions for anyone doing group rituals.

  1. TAKE YOUR TIME!  Practitioners tend to run through their ritual script, each one reading their parts, and there is seldom sufficient time allowed for really FEELING the inner workings of the rite. If you invoke the God  take TIME to FEEL his presence, to SEE him appear in your mind's eye. Use your inner senses to feel what's going on energetically, viscerally. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting you shouldn't use notes or read passages from paper - that's fine, but what I am saying is that you will get so much more out of your rituals if you allow lots of time to sense, feel direct and absorb the energies swirling around this event. Don't rush it!
  2. Typically, there is a range of skill and experience levels participating in your workings. That sort of diverse 'family style' activity is perfectly fine but even spiritually younger ones should be made aware that any sort of witchcraft will only be effective to the degree that you are directing, sensing, flowing ENERGY, aka POWER. In my opinion any age, skill or experience level can contribute something to the group energetically.
My advice to young witches and wizards everywhere is this: remember that its all about ENERGY. Wands and robes and other accoutrements can be wonderful tools if . . . IF . . . they are empowered and directed my the magick worker accordingly. Never lose sight of the whole unseen, invisible action going on in your workings. It really is worth every effort you put in to it!

Witches and Wannabes

I've known MANY witches, sorcerers and wizards and other magick folk over the years. Most follow this path for a time, then realize it's not their bag and leave. Experimentation is cool. How do you know if you'll like something unless you try it, right? Even so, I encourage anyone who is 'trying out' the mystical, magickal life - be it Wicca, Witchcraft, Voodoo, Hoodoo, spiritualism, channeling, etc., etc., etc., to really give it a good try. Just reading a couple of books and attending a Sabbat to get your "witchy" feel on does the path an injustice. Take it from someone who is a long time practitioner, it is a wonderful life- if it is YOURS. If it doesn't grab you by the throat, leave it alone. Most true magick folk have felt a strong attraction from very young- usually single digits.

Whatever you do, be true to yourself. No matter what anybody tells you, there is no absolute right or wrong way to follow your magickal path. What "fits" for you will be more effective than following somebody else's method. Magick is about unifying your power with that of Spirit/Nature/Divinity. You can't do that well if you choose to suppress what you are all about.

Inviting All The Wild and Wooly People!

The page tabs tells you what topics are welcome on this blog. Feel free to post at will. I'm a busy dude but I will answer as best I can. People, I INSIST on respect. If you can't overcome your urge to be an as*hole I won't hesitate to delete everything you wrote and ban you, if necessary. You can say anything you have to without disrespecting other posters or ME (not the smartest move you could make)

Feel free to post on any subject. If I have a problem with it I'll let you know. Be careful when it comes to sexual posts. No, I'm not a virgin or a prude but I don't want to be labeled an "adult" site either. Short of XXX stuff, say what you want.

Bring it on people!

Anonymous Pleasures

It was only a matter of time. Nature has a way of making its presence known, sooner or later. The deal I made with myself, my "nature," was to honor its impulse to be expressed. The result is very Gemini. Dualistic. Universal even, if I can be so bold (and I can.)

If you are the sort that strays toward the less traveled outskirts of thought and societal norms, then THIS blog might interest you. One last disclaimer: Whereas I have heretofore mentioned "other writings" that are more polished and made for public consumption, this blog is written for a smaller, more exclusive, if not 'cozier' group. In other words, I'm an ultra busy guy and just don't have the time to make it all nice and pretty for you. Take it as you find it or not at all.
